Available RTD elements include wirewound platinum, thin film platinum, copper and nickel elements. Platinum wire wound Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTD) construction consists of very fine high purity Platinum wire wound onto a ceramic core and then hermetically sealed with a glassed coating. The wire used is 99.99% pure platinum which gives excellent mechanical and electrical stability, provides close interchangeability and very little drift with age. (read more)
Tempco's RTD's (Resistance Temperature Detectors) are designed to meet IEC Publication 751, DIN43760, JIS1604-1989 and BS1904-1984. They are normally supplied to Class B, but can be manufactured to Class A as an option. RTD's offer greater repeatability and interchangeability than thermocouples or thermistors over the standard temperature scale from -260ºC to 630ºC (-436 to 1166ºF). (read more)
The AP4151-2000 is a wide-ranging, isolating signal conditioner for RTD inputs. The input is configured for a 3-wire RTD. (A 2-wire RTD can be used, by jumpering together terminals 4 and 5 on the mounting base.) The RTD types supported are Platinum, Nickel and Copper. Push button ranging is used for adjusting the input and output ranges. (read more)
Dataforth's extensive family of SensorLex® 8B isolated analog signal conditioners includes the 8B34 linearized 2- or 3-wire RTD (Resistive Temperature Device) input modules, 8B35 linearized 4-wire RTD input modules, and 8B36 potentiometer input modules. The 8B34 and 8B35 interface to 100 ohm platinum RTDs; the 8B36 interfaces to potentiometers up to 10,000 ohms. (read more)
When measurement of a process requires closer tolerances than available with lettered thermocouples, the instrument of choice is usally an RTD. Most RTDs are made with platinum/platinum-rhodium thermoelements although some may be made of nickel or copper. While RTDs do provide somewhat better tolerances, they also come with some downsides.
