Noise Control Products

Noise control products control noise or vibration passively through absorption or dampening. Like active noise control products, they break, block, absorb and isolate sound waves in order to provide noise and vibration control. There are many different types of passive noise control products. They range from basic, off-the-shelf acoustical materials to complex, multi-component noise control systems. Noise mufflers, industrial silencers, and industrial baffles are used in a variety of engineering noise control, industrial noise control, and noise pollution control applications. A noise muffler is often lined with acoustical materials. An industrial silencer is a device that limits airborne noise in the ducts and openings of buildings, enclosures, and equipment. An industrial baffle is a partition placed between two sources of sound, or between a sound source and a microphone. Noise control products that feature integral engineering noise control software are also available.

Selecting noise control products requires an analysis of performance specifications and special features. Most industrial baffles are made of materials with a high-absorption coefficient. Most industrial baffles are movable and relatively lightweight. Industrial silencers and noise mufflers vary in terms of port type, inlet placement, and outlet placement. In terms of special features, industrial silencers and noise mufflers may include filter silencers, separator silencers, and spark arrestors. Typically, an industrial silencer is made of aluminum or galvanized, carbon, or stainless steel. An industrial baffle, industrial silencer or noise muffler that is custom-designed should remain airtight at specified pressures. Noise control products use a standard measurement of reduction called the noise reduction co-efficient (NRC).

Noise control products are used in many industrial noise control, engineering noise control, and noise pollution control applications. A noise control product designed for an auditorium provides different features than a noise control product for a factory floor. Common methods of reducing interior sound reverberation include the use of acoustical gypsum, acoustical ceiling tile, carpet, acoustical wall and ceiling panels and draperies. Noise control products may also use a combination of acoustical absorption and diffusion.
