Magneto resistive linear position sensors and switches are noncontact devices that read and detect presence and movement. These types of sensors and switches are capable of providing an absolute reading from the moment they are turned on. Magneto resistive linear position sensors and switches do not need to be zeroed to an external reference. Many types of magneto resistive linear position sensors and switches are available. With magneto resistive linear position sensors and switches, the resistance of a conducting strip is a function of the direction and magnitude of an applied magnetic field. They are made of nickel-iron thin film on a silicon wafer and are formed as a resistive strip. In the presence of a magnetic field, the resistance changes slightly. The most important specifications for magneto resistive linear position sensors and switches are the operating distance, the distance to be measured, repeatability, and accuracy. Some magneto resistive linear position sensors and switches allow the distance to be adjusted in the field.

Magneto resistive linear position sensors and switches are available in a number of different styles. Choices including barrel style, limit switch, rectangular or block style, slot style, and ring style magneto resistive linear position sensors and switches. Barrel style devices switches are cylindrical and are often threaded. Limit switch styles, rectangular block styles, and ring sensors are also available. The limit switch style is similar in appearance to a contact limit switch. The sensor is separated from the switching mechanism. Rectangular or block style devices are one-piece sensors or switches. Slot style sensors are a type of magneto resistive linear position sensors and switches that are designed to have an object pass through a sensing slot. Ring style sensors are toroidal or donut-shaped magneto resistive linear position sensors and switches that are designed to have the object pass through center of the ring. Digital interfaces are available for magneto resistive linear position sensors and switches. These can be serial, parallel, or another type such as digital signal such as transistor-transistor logic (TTL). Digital interfaces for magneto restrictive linear position sensors and switches can also have analog, digital, or computer interfaces. Housing for digital interfaces is available in plastic and metal. Additional features for magneto resistive linear position sensors and switches are also available.

Products & Services Related to Linear Position Sensors and Switches, Magneto Resistive
Cable Extension Linear Position Sensors
Cable extension linear position sensors are used to measure the movement and displacement of objects. A cable or wire is attached to an object, and as the object moves, the transducer produces an electrical signal proportional to the wire's linear extension.
Linear Position Sensors, LVDT
Linear variable differential transformer (LVDT) linear position sensors have a series of inductors in a hollow cylindrical shaft and a solid cylindrical core. These devices produce an electrical output proportional to the position of the core
