About Magnetoresistive Linear Position Sensors and Switches
Magnetoresistive linear position sensors and switches are noncontact devices that read and detect presence and movement. These types of sensors and switches are capable of providing an absolute reading from the moment they are turned on. Magnetoresistive linear position sensors and switches do not need to be zeroed to an external reference. Many types of magnetoresistive linear position sensors and switches are available.
With magnetoresistive linear position sensors and switches, the resistance of a conducting strip is a function of the direction and magnitude of an applied magnetic field. They are made of nickel-iron thin film on a silicon wafer and are formed as a resistive strip. In the presence of a magnetic field, the resistance changes slightly. The most important specifications for magnetoresistive linear position sensors and switches are the operating distance, the distance to be measured, repeatability, and accuracy. Some magnetoresistive linear position sensors and switches allow the distance to be adjusted in the field.
